Persona 2 muses has been eating at me.
Five Pictures That Eikichi Drew
01. Tatsuya and Maya sitting on the floor together in the bomb shelter, Maya with her head on the teen’s shoulder as she stares almost forlornly at the dirty and singed bunny charm clutched tight in her hand.
02. The rigged MUSES concert, with Lisa standing between her friends as she sings, nervous smile nearly hidden by the chaos of color cast by the lights.
03. Jun with a small kitten in his lap, a seemingly delighted smile on his lips as he teases it with a flower, dark eyes dulled by despair and loathing.
04. Tatsuya sitting on one of the window benches in the Silverman Mansion, one knee pulled up to his chest as he looks out it thoughtfully, the setting sun drenching him in warm, fire-like hues.
05. A child’s drawing, worn and faded with age, lost in the clutter and confusion of growing up. Five crude figures, drawn in once bright crayon. A small girl, hair blonde and sun dress a vivid blue; a heavier set boy, lagging behind the others, yet not left behind; two boys running together, both a shadow of the other; and an older girl, dressed in a sailor fuku, arms held out wide for the others. All wearing masks ay they play together near a shrine.
Five Times on This Side They Manage To Connect
01. Sometimes, Jun goes to Gatten Sushi, not to eat (though he orders to be polite), but to watch the owner’s son, a young man he vaguely remembers going to school with. They never speak a word to each other, but occasionally the blue haired man will lift his head and hold Jun’s gaze for a moment before going back to the task at hand. And somehow those few seconds are more important then a long conversation could ever be.
02. Eikichi prefers heavier music, but when he hears that the big new group Muses is going to be releasing their first single he finds himself buying it on impulse. Like he thinks the two songs are light and airy, yet as he lays on his bed looking up at the CD case to study the forms of the three women who make up the group, especially the fair-haired gaijin, he decides that it’s not too bad.
03. Graduation comes and goes, and Lisa finds herself wondering what she should do in life. Sitting on a park bench she contemplates, only to be distracted when a flower enters her field of vision. Looking up she sees that it’s being held by a young man about her age, a soft smile on his pale lips. Their fingers touch for a moment when she reaches up to take the flower from him.
04. Tatsuya finds an old watch of his father’s as he cleans his room, tarnished and not working. Holding it in one hand as the other reaches into his pocket to play with a lighter he doesn’t remember receiving, his gaze lingers on the unmoving hands.
05. In a crowd of thousands three who don’t know one another meet. On stage, a woman sings her final song as her gaze somehow falls on those three, watching as they draw closer against the churn of the crowd. One by one they all make eye contact with her and with one another and she can’t help but smile widely, for once feeling a sense of home.
Five Moments I’ve Spent With Them
01. “You messed up again,” Eikichi complains as my fingers slip on the strings for the umpteenth time. “Stop trying to go so fast.” I glare at him as he carefully repositions my hands before leaning back, singing the notes I’m trying to play slowly so I can get a feeling of what they sound like before trying to play again.
02. Katsuya gives me a strange look as I hold out my hand. “What?” “Spoon,” I say matter of factly. He sighs, but his lips curve up in a small smile as he hands me the batter laden utensil.
03. “But… but…!” “Oh come on!” Lisa begs. “You know the parts just as well as Miipo, and you’re awesome at singing, Ae-lin! Please, please, please?” “…Won’t the fans mind?” “If they do then they can screw themselves.” “You’ve been spending too much time with Eikichi.”
04. “What’s this one?” Jun asked, pointing at a deep red flower. “Ummmm… red tsubaki; in love.” “Hai. This?” A spider like one with pale red coloring. “Red spider lily; never to meet again, lost love, or abandonment.”
05. “Is something wrong, Aeron?” Tatsuya asked as he stepped out of the Iwatodai police station. “Yeah, actually…” I muttered sheepishly. “I kinda sorta missed the last train to the dorms.” Tatsuya shakes his head but laughs. “Come on, then. I’ll give you a ride.” “Thanks, Tatsu-nii!”
